Recently I had a long weekend away in Barcelona and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is looking for a short break. As a city it has everything that you could want including great shopping, loads of historical sites, contemporary art and fantastic weather – Barcelona also has a beach! There is artwork, buildings and mosaics scattered all around the city from the artist and architect Antoni Gaudi which are stunning. If you do go to Barcelona and there is only time to do one thing then I would say that you have to see the Sagrada Familia which is a contemporary post-modern cathedral that was designed by Gaudi in the 1880’s but is still not yet complete which means that each time you go there a new section has been added.
